Gustav Update # 1

(VICTORIA, TEXAS) Victoria Emergency Officials will closely monitor the projected track of Tropical Storm Gustav over the Labor Day weekend. This storm is forecast to strike Cuba on Saturday and enter the Gulf of Mexico over the Labor Day weekend.

“We urge area residents to relax over the Labor Day weekend but also ask them to check the status of Gustav before finalizing any travel plans, especially if they are heading toward Louisiana” said Jeb Lacey, Victoria’s Emergency Management Coordinator.

The current forecast calls for Gustav to make landfall somewhere near the Lake Charles and New Orleans area, but according to the National Weather Service could still deviate as far west as Port Lavaca.

As standard precautions, area residents are urged monitor this storm through both the local and national media, fuel up vehicles and go over their hurricane evacuation plan.

For more information, contact Jeb Lacey, 485-3362.
