Chief of Police - Jeffrey Craig

Jeffrey Craig began his law enforcement career in 1982 when he joined the ranks of the Long Beach, CA Police Department, where he served for 29 years.

Chief Craig’s police officer experience includes assignments in Patrol, the Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Drug Investigations Section.  In 1988, he promoted to Sergeant with assignments that included the Gang Enforcement Section, the Metropolitan Division/Special Enforcement Section and SWAT.  In 1997, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he worked Patrol, the Special Enforcement Section, SWAT and Vice.  In 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Commander where his assignments included the Communications Division and the West Patrol Division.   He was also the Chief of Staff working in the office of the Chief of Police.  He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2006.

As the Deputy Chief of the Support Bureau, he was in command of the Jail Division, the Training Division and the Emergency Operations Division.

Chief Craig was the President of the Police Athletic League Board of Directors and has been past President of the Long Beach Police Command Officers Association.   He was a board member for Family Service, a Long Beach non-profit organization.  He was also the Long Beach Police Department representative on several Counter Terrorism Committees to include the Los Angeles/Long Beach Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Working Group, Surface Transportation Security Committee, and the Area Maritime Security Committee (AMSC).

Chief Craig was born and raised in Long Beach and is a graduate of Wilson High School, Class of 1979. He holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Long Beach City College in Administration of Justice, a Bachelors Degree from University of Phoenix in Business Management and a Masters Degree from University of Phoenix in Organizational Management. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, Class 196 and from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government State and Local Government Program.

On August 15, 2011, Chief Craig began his service with the Victoria Police Department as Chief of Police.

Chief Craig is married and together with his wife, they have five children. He enjoys playing softball and golf, and spending time with his family.
